ABOUT
For a copy of my resume please click here. If you want to know more about me, then read on.
My name is Alex Zartman and I have been working as a graphic designer for over 12 years. The last 8 years have been spent in New York City for the same reasons most people move here.
I started off as a freelance designer working for Cathode Ray Club, a motion design firm doing work for Comedy Central and History Channel. I moved on to work for the NFL at their corporate headquarters and then eventually took a position with Aeropostale/JIMMY'Z and learned about the retail environment.
Eventually I moved back into the media landscape when I was offered an opportunity to join ESPN. I have spent the past 5 years at ESPN and have contributed greatly to this amazing organization.
I think what sets me apart is my background. I didn't start my career in graphic design. I majored in Political Science and went into the energy efficiency field for several years where I discovered that my passion wasn't policy, but design in the pursuit of better policy. I went back to graduate school at the Savannah College of Art & Design and received my M.F.A. in 2004. I then moved to Brooklyn, New York to start fresh.
Working in New York City has proved to be everything I imagined it would be. Tough, rewarding and unique. I like to think that by some strange confluence of the universe I moved here for all the right reasons. The best is yet to come.
Go Nets.
SIDE INTERESTS
What do I do when not at work? Work some more.
I do graphic design work for Corcoran Real Estate on weekends supporting several agents marketing efforts in the local area.
I volunteer at a local distillery helping to make Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
I serve as the Parents Association President at my son's Science, Language and Art's school.
I continue to refine my amateur chef skills as I seek to improve my apple cider BBQ glaze, BBQ rub, and Chimmi churri sauce. I grill a mean steak and just about anything else that requires copious amounts of fire.
I miss my days turning wrenches on old VW's like my classic '87 GTi 16v, '93 Corrado SLC or my 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback. I substitute for that longing with various home improvement projects to impress my wife in our little "rose cottage" in Brooklyn.
